Make room for the photographs you love

Choose the photographs first

A meaningful wall begins with the pictures you want to live with. Mix everyday moments with special occasions. The sitting room shown here includes photographs in several sizes, surrounded by smaller objects and signs.

Let a larger piece anchor the arrangement

Use one or two larger frames to establish the grouping. Arrange the smaller pieces around them on the floor before putting anything on the wall. Paper templates let you check the layout and spacing at its actual size.

Repeat finishes, not identical frames

Wood, dark frames, and lighter mats appear throughout this wall. Repeating a few finishes helps different pieces belong together. You can keep frames collected over time rather than replacing every one with a matching set.

Connect the wall to the room

Think about the furniture below the arrangement. A gallery should feel related to the seating rather than float near the ceiling. Check the composition from the doorway and from a seated position before settling on its final height.
